After a bit of a wait, I was finally able to catch Glass Human again. I saw them on September 15, on a bill opening up for Bent Knee at The Marquis Theater. While they didn’t play the longest set, every second was immensely powerful. The first time I got to see them was opening up for Jade Oracle at The Skylark here in Denver, and from then on I knew they were a must-see. Emily Shreve, Dave Sandoval, John Willis, and Lehi Petersen all do a killer job of bringing the energy and sonic hammers in every composition.
One big thing that I love about Glass Human’s live performances is their use of space. Seemingly built into the songs, there are moments where only one instrument is heard, and everyone's attention moves to that one individual. These moments culminate in a heavy drop, with the full band belting out riffs alongside massive vocals from Emily. I think in the grand scheme of music today, space is rarely used as a prominent musical attribute. To see it executed so strongly in a live band setting is really special.
Glass Human was a great way to open the night supporting Megafauna and Bent Knee on their tour. Overall, they do an amazing job of taking the audience down a sonic path with their live shows. They do a great job at combining ambience, space, heavy riffs, and unique compositions to showcase powerful performances. While some of their sounds might be familiar to the ear, it's clear Glass Human is shooting for new territory. I'm here for every second of it! If you have the chance, I highly recommend going to see Glass Human live in Denver or on tour in the U.S. You will not regret it.
Glass Human is playing live at Lost Lake in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, October 15 with Spyderland and Mr.Gnome. They also have an EP coming out in spring 2025 titled The Hive. Feel free to follow them on Instagram to keep up with anything else they might have going on.
